In February 1875 he was appointed administrator of his father's estate in Rogersville, Hawkins Co., TN. In the Chancery Court at Rogersville, Tenn J. C. Mills, Adm'r., of Hiram Mills, dec'd vs The Widow, Heirs, and Creditors of said deceased. From the allegations of Complaints bill in this cause which is sworn to, it appears that the Defendants, Thomas Cantwell and wife, Mary Cantwell, are non-residents of the State of Tennessee, so that the ordinary process of law cannot be served on them. It is, therefore, ordered by me, that publication be made for four successive weeks in the Herald and Tribune a newspaper published in the town of Jonesboro, Tenn, notifying said non-resident Defendants to appear before the Chancery Court of Hawkins County at Rogersville, Tenn. on or before the first Monday in May next, to make defense to said bill or the same will be taken for confessed and set for hearing exparte as to them.
