Arcadia Brethren Section 2 Lot 170 Buried as Rachel Porter

Rachel Newby, daughter of John and Buelah Newby, was born March 30, 1853, died August 28, 1904, aged 51 years, 4 months, and 28 days. She was united in marriage to Strawder Porter, November 28, 1872, who was taken from her in death June 12, 1881 To this union one child was born, Charles D. Porter, who yet remains. She was again united in marriage October 20, 1884 to John Coffey, whose faithful wife she has been until the time of her taking away. She early recognized the claims of Jesus upon her and surrendered to Him, uniting with the Church of Christ, at Omega, and remaining a member of that congregation during her lifetime. While confronting the hindrances which beset us all, and no doubt, experience at times those sessions of indifferences from which none of us are exempt, she remained faith and sympathy loyal to Christ who had purchased her pardon. The greater part of her life was spent in the vicinity of Omega where she was raised, She moved with her husband to Arcadia twelve years ago, where she has since resided.

The virtues of her life and the sympathies of her heart enlisted for her a large circle of friends who unite their tears with the tears of the lonely husband, the orphaned son, the aged father and the weeping sisters in their hour of sorrow. May we be led to choose that good part which shall not be taken away.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Newlin and Underwood at the Christian church on Tuesday, August 30, at 10:30 a.m. Burial at the cemetery east of town.
