He appeared in the census on 30 April 1930 in Boone Twp., Watauga Co., NC.¹⁵⁴⁴⁰ Ellis died of a mesenteric thrombosis on 7 April 1965 at the age of 69 in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC and was buried at Browns Chapel, Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC on 9 April 1965.^{15441,15442,15443}

Ellis Empsey Marshall Coffey and Zora Alice Phillips were married on 10 May 1919 in Ashe Co., NC.¹⁵⁴⁴⁴ Zora Alice Phillips, daughter of Jesse Arthur Phillips and Mary Ellen Greer, was born on 8 December 1896 in Ashe Co., NC. Zora died in Watauga Co., NC on 24 December 1928. Browns Chapel, Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC in December 1928.¹⁵⁴⁴⁵

Ellis Empsey Marshall Coffey and Hettie Taylor were married circa 1930. Her maiden name in some birth records for her children with Ellis give her the last name of Harrison. She could be the Hettie Taylor who married Clinard Harrison in the mid-1920's in NC. The Ellis Coffey family has not yet been located in the 1940 census to determine what other children might be in the Coffey household. Hettie Taylor, daughter of John Thomas Taylor and Rose Alice Greer, was born on 7 May 1907 in North Carolina. Hettie died of a cerebral vascular accident on 29 July 1972 at the age of 65 at home in Boone, Watauga Co., NC and was buried at Browns Chapel Cemetery, in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC on 31 July 1972.¹⁵⁴⁴⁹
