Louis Edward Coffey, 75, of 308 Old Greenville Road, died Monday evening (Jan. 7, 1991) in King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born Feb. 20, 1915 in Rockbridge County, a son of Wood W. and Nettie (Niceley) Coffey.

Coffey was employed by Crompton, American Safety Razor and the Carpenters Union. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 11 years.

Survivors include his widow, Frances (Painter) Coffey, who he married Dec. 27, 1957; two sons, Edward Lee and Haywood H. Coffey, and a daughter, Phyllis C. Kimberling, all of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Willard Coffey of Buena Vista; three sisters, Bertha C. Thomas of Buena Vista, Vernie Taylor Dick of Waynesboro and Arleene C. Lee of Hampton; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hamrick Funeral by Father H.G. D. Dodge and the Rev. Woodward D. Morriss Jr. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John C. Shreckhise II, Daniel K. Shreckhise, Wade A. Staton and Hansford, Donnie and Charles Lee Coffey.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad, Memorial Trust Fund, 1601 N. Coalter St., Staunton, Va. 24401 or to a favorite charity.

Honorary pallbearers will be James B. Grant, Larry Sundstrom, John C. Shreckhise Sr., Douglas Patterson, Harold Luty, Eddie Allen, William Gibbs Kable III, Harry Ellinger, William Fitzhugh, Conrad Merritt, Jerry Hirtriter and Ronnie Taylor.

He is survived by seven sisters-in-law, Lottie Coffey, Lynchburg, Holly Coffey, Buena Vista, Louise and Dorothy Coffey, both of Waynesboro, Clara P. Shreckhise and Helen P. Staton, both of Staunton, and Jean Dickerson, Goochland.

A living couple was married in 1937 in Pleasant View, Amherst Co., VA.29944 He/she29944 were separated in 1951 in Virginia and were divorced 1952 in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA.29945 Living was born circa 1918 in Amherst Co., VA.
