Burlington Industries Retiree Dies At Age 82

James "Willard" Coffey, 82, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, August 27, 2000 at his residence. Born September 3, 1917 in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Reuben Wood and Nettie Belle Nicely Coffey. He was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Riverview Holiness Church. Mr. Coffey was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Charlie Fitzgerald; his granddaughter, Melissa Fitzgerald, two sisters and five brothers.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Myra Helen "Holly" Layton Coffey; his daughters and their husbands, Janet Mae and Henry Coleman, Mavis Lee Fitzgerald, Linda Sue and Kenneth Huff, all of Buena Vista; seven grandchildren, and his sister, Arlene Lee of Hampton.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at Lomax Funeral Home.

Nelson County Native Dies At Age 86

Myra Helen "Holly" Coffey, 86, of Buena Vista, died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center.

Born July 6, 1919 in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late A. D. and Rosa Cash Layton.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness faith since age 11.

Her husband, James Willard Coffey, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Janet May Coleman and husband, Henry, Mavis Lee Fitzgerald, and Linda Sue Huff and husband, Kenneth, all of Buena Vista; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two step great great grandchildren; and a sister, Alma Ramsey of Buena Vista.

The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2006, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Huff officiating. Burial will follow in the Timber Ridge Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Lomax Funeral Home. The Lomax Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
