Coffey, Elizabeth Pearl Barton

MARION, Va. Elixabeth Pearl Barton Coffey, age 94, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va. Mrs. Coffey was born January 1, 1922, in Cherokee County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Wilbur W. and Maude Taylor Barton. She was a member of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church and was a retired employee of Southwestern State Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Calloway Coffey.

Mrs. Coffey is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Emma Jeanne "Amy" Coffey Mendez and Daniel L. Mendez of Marion, Va.; three grandsons, Michael A. Mendez of Sugar Grove, Va., David E. Mendez of Washington, D.C., and Jason P. Mendez of Richmond, Va.; special nieces, Mary Lou Coffey McKelvey and husband, James of Homosassa, Fla., and Earlene Coffey Wheeler and husband, Richard of Bristol, Tenn.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray W. and Virginia Barton of Athens, Tenn., Mark E. and Patsy Barton of Harriman, Tenn., and Frank Barton of Athens, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 14, 2016, at 12 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Reverend Alan Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Tenn.
