IRON STATION — Mrs. Zelma Coffey Beam, age 96 of Iron Station, N.C., died on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Shaire Nursing Home and Retirement Center, 1450 Shaire Circle Drive in Lenoir, N.C. 

Her funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at Pearl Baptist Church in Iron Station with Rev. Gerald Ramsey and Rev. Dr. Robert Wensil officiating. Special music will be by Mike McCarn of Lincolnton. Burial will follow in the Iron Station Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Beam was born on July 11, 1913 in Caldwell County to the late Pal Coffey and Sarah Brown Coffey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Kern Beam. Mrs. Beam was an active and longtime member of Iron Station United Methodist Church. She was a beloved mother and grandmother who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and will be remembered by her family and friends as the true meaning of life, love and commitment.

Survivors include two sons, Carroll Beam and wife Nora of Iron Station, Guy Beam and wife Hyacinth of Lincolnton; three daughters, Clara Gibson of Charlotte, Dorothy Morse and husband Calvin of West Palm Beach, Fla., Sandra Dahlhofer and husband Gary of Clyde, N.C.; two grandchildren, Derek Beam and Tamara Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC.

Mr. Jennings Kern Beam, 85, of 5554 East Highway 27 in Iron Station, died Jan. 13, 1997 in Lincoln Nursing Center.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at Iron Station United Methodist Church with Revs. Robert Combs and Gerald Ramsey officiating. Burial in the Iron Station Community Cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.

He was born in Gaston County on July 25, 1911 son of the late Adolfus and Ellen Coffey Beam. He was a member of Iron Station United Methodist Church and was a retired foreman for Duke Power Co.

Survivors: wife, Zelma Coffey Beam, of the home; three daughters, Clara Gibson, of Charlotte, NC; Dorothy Beam, of Boca Raton, FL; Sandra Brown, of Boca Raton, FL; two sons, Carroll Beam, of Iron Station, NC; Guy Beam, of Lincolnton, NC; one sister, Edna Logan, of Lincolnton, NC; two grandchildren.
