Virginia Burgess

Mrs. Virginia Coffey Burgess, age 91, of Highway 321 South, Blowing Rock, died Sunday evening, April 27, at Watauga Medical Center.

Mrs. Burgess was born April 26, 1906 in Watauga County, a daughter of Norman O. and Carrie Norris Coffey. Mrs. Burgess was an innkeeper for many years and was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Boone.

Mrs. Burgess is survived by one daughter, Anne Burgess of Route 1, Blowing rock, one son, H. William Burgess and his wife, Sandra, of Honolulu, Hawaii; a son-in-law, Perry Ashley of Vilas; two granddaughters, Liza B. Frampton of Carlsbad, California and Rebecca B. Love of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandson[s], William Burgess, Jr. of Hermosa Beach, California, and John Timothy Burgess of Alaska; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews, including Lillian Taylor Bindsoil and husband Harold of Columbia, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Michael Burgess and a son, John Raymond Burgess.

A Memorial Mass for Mrs. Burgess will be celebrated Monday, May 5 at 10 o'clock at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Boone; officiated by Father Francis Conley and Father Conrad Hoover.

The family respectfully requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the Blowing Rock Adult Day Care Center, in care of Linda Bretz, P.O. Box 148, Blowing Rock, or to the Watauga Humane Society, P.O. Box 267, Blowing Rock, N.C. 28605.

Austin & Barnes Funeral Homes of Boone was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Clara Coffey and Raymond Michael Burgess were married. Raymond Michael Burgess was born on 16 April 1899 in Essex Co., NY. Raymond died in Guilford Co., NC on 11 August 1950.44707
