Clyde Earl Coffey Found Dead In Bed

Clyde Earl Coffey, 47, of Route 7, Winston-Salem Road, was found dead in his bead this morning, presumably as the result of a heart attack suffered during the night.

He was the son of Mrs. Carrie Norris Coffey of Greensboro, and the name Norman O. Coffey. Born in Boone, he had lived in Guilford County for the past 30 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 76 and operated the Cay Lee Cafe (?) and Service Station on Winston-Salem Road.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eunice Phillips Coffey; one son, Clyde Earl Coffey, Jr., of the home; two brothers, H. W. Coffey of Greensboro and J. B. Coffey of Columbia, S.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. R. M. Burgess and Mrs. T. L. Ogburn, both of Greensboro.

The body will remain at Hanes Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Clyde Earl Coffey and Eunice Phillips were married. They appeared in the census on 7 April 1930 in Greensboro, Morehead Twp., Guilford Co., NC.44698 They44698 appeared in the census on 8 April 1940 in Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV.44699 Eunice Phillips, daughter of Carson C. Mrs. Eunice Phillips Coffey, 87, of 6858 W. Market St. died Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Guilford Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

A Montgomery County native, she was former owner-operator of Gay and Lee Cafe and a member of Eastern Star Chapter 14.

Surviving are son, Clyde E. Coffey Jr. of Wilton, Calif.; daughter, Mrs. Ruby Burris of York, S.C.; sisters, Mrs. Fae Coltrane of Greensboro, Mrs. Verdie Garner of Asheboro; brothers, Eli Phillips of Robbins, Calvin Phillips of Baltimore, June Phillips of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today.
