Services to be held for Jack Coffey

Services were at 8 a.m. today for Lloyd "Jack" Coffey, who died of an apparent heat attack Monday at him home in Bean Station. He was 79. He was the brother of Dr. Vernon Coffey, Grainger County director of schools. Jack Coffey was retired from the New Jersey Mines in Gordonsville. He moved back to Grainger County following his retirement. Dr. Coffey said his brother had no health problems they were aware of. He taught his Sunday school class and had lead singing at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Sunday. In addition to Dr. Coffey and other brothers and sisters, he is survived by his wife, Frankie; sons, Eddie of Entereprise, AL and Bobby, of Bean Station and daughters, Kay Kincaid of Thorn Hill and Patricia Oiler of Birmingham, AL. The family will receive friends at Stubblefield's in Morristown from 4-8 p.m. today with the funeral service to follow immediately. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Mt. Pleasant Church cemetery.

COFFEY, FRANCES (FRANKIE) ELIZABETH JAMES - age 86 went to her heavenly home on January 28, 2015. Frankie was born in Jefferson County, TN, November 18, 1928, and lived in Maryville, TN, until she was wed to Jack Coffey in 1947. They began their married lives in Franklin, OH, and then moved back to Thorn Hill, TN, and later to their farm in Washburn, TN. They moved to Gordonsville, TN, for a job transfer and after retirement settled back in East Tennessee in Bean Station. Frankie was a long time member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Thorn Hill, which she attended faithfully, and an associate member of Gordonsville United Methodist Church in Gordonsville, TN. Her personal warmth and energy helped her contribute much to those around her. She loved being active in the community and was a member of the Bean Station Family Community Education Club. She was a charter member of the Bean Station Senior Citizens where she previously served as treasurer and helped with the organization and completion of a new seniors building, which was a very important civic goal for her. She won several blue ribbons for the flowers she loved to grow, was a great cook and known for her wonderful fried apple pies, and was an artist and created many wonderful still life and landscape oil paintings. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Loyd P. (Jack) Coffey; her parents, Eva Lillie and Frank Martin James; infant sister, Kathleen James; brothers and sisters-in-law, Olen and Windell James, Lloyd M. and Gretchen Bell James, Marvin James, Ralph and Lois James; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ann Holt, Horace and Freda Mallicoat, Allen Herald, Hubert Davidson, R.B. Coffey, and Bea Whitehead; nephew, Randy Herald; and niece, Janice Mallicoat Dearth. Survivors include her children: sons, Eddie (Sandy) Coffey of Enterprise, AL, Bob (Sherry) Coffey of Bean Station, TN; daughters, Kay (Randy) Kincaid of Thorn Hill, TN, and Pat (Eric) Oller of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Russ (Kristen) Coffey, Heather (John) Andrews, Luke (Andrea) Coffey, Chris (Katie) Kincaid, Adam Kincaid, Matthew (Amanda) Kincaid, Laura (Nick) Jackson, and Emily (Brendan) Lunn; great grandchildren, Evelyn Coffey, Wyatt and Braden Andrews, Jackson and Piper Coffey, John Cameron and Thomas Kincaid, Konner and Gavin Kincaid, Elsa and Cormac Jackson; sisters, Faye (Bob) Holbert of Knoxville, Imogene Whitehead of Friendsville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rose Davidson, Tootsie Herald, Wilbur (Kathryn) Coffey, Alton (Evelyn) Coffey, Glenda Coffey, Vernon (Virginia) Coffey, Truman Holt; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends. The family would like to offer special thanks to caregivers, Alice, Carma, and Flora. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m.. Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Thorn Hill with Rev. Jerry Epperson and Bob Holbert officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
