Coffey, Mrs. Mamie Stapleton, age 77, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Thursday at her home in Thorn Hill. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Survivors: Husband, W. P. Coffey, of the home; daughters, Mrs. Horace (Freda) Mallicoat, Franklin, Oh., Mrs. Hubert (Rose) Davidson, Thorn Hill; Mrs. Allen (Tootsie) Hereald [sic], Carliesle [sic], Oh., Wilbur Coffey, Thorn Hill, Alton Coffey, Springboro, R. B. Coffey, Washburn, Vernon Coffey, Bean Station; sisters, Mrs. Fred (Sarah) Jackson, Mrs. Arkie Davidson; brothers, R. N. Stapleton, Rev. W.C. Stapleton, E.T. Stapleton; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 1 p.m. Sunday, Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Rev. Andy Vance, Rev. Clyde Gideon, Rev. Lynn Henry officiating. Burial Church Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers. The body will be moved to Mount Pleasant United Methodist 4 p.m. Saturday where friends will be received until time of service. Smith Funeral Home, Rutledge, in charge.

Obituary contributed by Betty Martin, June 30, 2020 Wilbur E. Coffey, 85, of Thorn Hill, born February 20, 1935, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at home with his family by his side. Wilbur was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. He was a retired business owner and a farmer most of his life. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. and Mamie Stapleton Coffey; sisters, Ann Holt and Freda Mallicoat; and brothers, Loyd (Jack) Coffey and R.B. Coffey. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Kathryn Coffey; son, Steve (Beverly) Coffey; daughter, Judy (Jerry) Nye; grandchildren, Brandon (Aubrey) Kilby, Stephenie (Shawn) McGinnis, and Zachary Kilby; great-grandchildren, Tinley and Maylee Kilby; brothers, Alton (Evelyn) Coffey and Vernon (Virginia) Coffey; sisters, Rose Davidson, Ethel “Tootsie” Herald and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Pallbearers: Brett Coffey, Lucas Coffey, Mike Holt, Brandon Kilby, Zachary Kilby, Rodney Coffey. Honorary Pallbearers: Dennis Estes, David Cunningham, Rhea Scearce, Gary Rucker, Ray Milhorne, Shawn McGinnis, Earl Harville and Lodge brothers and friends. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge and on Thursday, July 2, 2020, from 10am – 11am at Mt Pleasant Methodist Church in Thorn Hill. Funeral Service will be at 11:00am on Thursday, July 2, 2020, with Rev. Denver Davidson and Rev. Jerry Epperson officiating. Graveside service to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to be made to either Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church or to Thorn Hill Volunteer Fire Department in Mr. Coffey’s honor.
