COFFEY, RAYMOND B. 'R.B.' - age 74, of Knoxville, passed away January 9, 2015. He was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Thorn Hill, and had 31 and a half years service in the Grainger County School System. At age 19 he started his teaching career at Indian Creek School, and was teacher principal at Washburn School from 1963 till 1990. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. and Mamie Stapleton Coffey; sister, Ann Coffey Holt; sister and brother-in-law, Freda Coffey Mallicoat and Horace Mallicoat; brother, Lloyd (Jack) Coffey; brothers-in-law, Allen Herald and Hubert Davidson; nephew, Randy Herald; and niece, Janice Mallicoat Dearth. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Glenda Coffey; daughter, Vanessa (Scott) Chandler both of Knoxville; precious grandchildren, Trent and Addison Chandler; brothers, Wilbur (Kathryn) Coffey of Thorn Hill, Robert Alton (Evelyn) Coffey of Miamisburg, Ohio; and Vernon (Virginia) Coffey of Bean Station; sisters, Rose Davidson of Thorn Hill, and Ethel Herald of Carlisle, Ohio; sister-in-law, Frances Coffey and brother-in-law, Truman Holt; several nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Michael Underwood for years of excellent care. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Beeler and Rev. Denver Davidson officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, January 12, 2015, at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge.
