Wiley E. Coffey Jr., 76, left this life Aug. 14, 2004, from Sentara Bayside Hospital. He was born in Blowing Rock, N.C., in 1928. He served his country for 50 years. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 15 in World War II advancing from seaman to lieutenant commander; served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He also served in Japan, Spain, California, Texas and Virginia. He retired after 30 years and missing the sea, he joined the Merchant Marines and spent 20 years sailing as first mate then as captain.

He leaves behind his family: wife, Mary Lou; brother, Dean; daughter, Tanya; sons, Randy, Steve and Lance; stepchildren, Lisa, Pat, Kathy and Jim; numerous grandchildren; and his best friend, Frances.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Dean Coffey. Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

Wiley was a career Navy officer for 30 years, and in Merchant Marine for 20 years.

Lt. Cmdr Wiley Earl Coffey Jr. and Lee Ann Wagner were married. They were divorced about 1959 in California. Lee Ann Wagner was born on 11 May 1928 in San Jose, Santa Clara Co., CA.⁴⁶²⁴²

Lt. Cmdr Wiley Earl Coffey Jr. and Clarice Christine Pritchard were married. Clarice Christine Pritchard was born in 1928. Clarice died in 1969.
