Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jean Isbell Gragg of the home; a son, Hobert Gragg Jr. of Lenoir; a brother, Cecil Gragg and wife Jewel of Lenoir; sisters, Mabel Hartley of South Carolina and Goldie Danner of Linville, N.C. A funeral service for Mr. Gragg will be held in Pendry's Chapel Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Jernigan and the Rev. Randy Bowlin officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Pendry's Funeral Home. Born on Oct. 22, 1932 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Sylvester Gragg and Queen Coffey Gragg. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Gragg, three brothers: Lewis Gragg, Ronald Gragg, and Ray Gragg. Mr. Gragg was a veteran of the Air Force, Army, and National Guard. He was also the owner of Russell Woodcarving. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jacumin Gragg of the home; two sons, Timothy and Kenny Gragg, both of Hickory; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Gragg of Hickory; three grandsons, Dana Tuttle and wife Laura of Conover, Clay Tuttle of Hickory and Evan Gragg of Conover; two granddaughters, Erin Jones and husband Michael of Claremont and Lacie Webb of Hudson; a great grandson, Noah Tuttle of Conover, two sisters: Mable Hartley of Newberry, S.C. and Goldie Danner of Linville, N.C. and two brothers, Hobert Gragg of Hudson and Cecil Gragg of Lenoir. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct., 13, 2007 at Highland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stuart Noell and the Rev. Paul Grindstaff officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post #48.
