Exie Mae Coffey and Ivey Watson Coffey were married on 28 December 1918 in Avery Co., NC.34098 They34098 appeared in the census on 20 January 1920 in Wilson Creek Twp., Avery Co., NC.34099 Ivey Watson Coffey, son of David William Coffey and Gertrude Trivette, was born on 10 May 1900 in Gragg, Avery Co., NC.34100,34101 He lived wth his paternal grandparents in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC on 13 June 1900. He registered for the WWI draft on 12 September 1918 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.34102 Ivey registered for the WW2 draft on 16 February 1942 in Newland, Avery Co., NC.34103 Ivey died on 20 October 1982 at the age of 82 in Avery Co., NC and was buried at New Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Gragg, Avery Co., NC.34104,34105,34106,34107

Opal Coffey was born on 21 October 1925 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.34108,34109 She lived with her maternal granmother Etta Hayes Coffey in Wilson Creek Twp., Avery Co., NC on 2 April 1930. She lived with her father and step-mother in Globe Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 15 April 1940. Opal died on 8 December 2001 at the age of 76 in Morganton, Burke Co., NC and was buried at Cary Flat Cemetery in Gragg, Avery Co., NC.34110

Obituary

Opal Coffey, 76, of Magnolia Dr., Morganton, died Saturday, December 8, 2001 in a Morganton hospital.

A native of Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Ivey W. And Exie Coffey. She was a member of the New Hopewell Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother, O’dell Coffey of Newland; sisters, Valma [sic] Adkins of Lenoir, Janet Ingram of Lenoir and Betty Pope of Lenoir.

Funeral services for Opal Coffey were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, from the New Hopewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Doug Bare and Randy Gibson officiating. Interment followed in the New Hopewell Cemetery.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland is serving the Coffey family.
