Mrs. Eliza Coffey

Hiddenite Resident

Mrs. Eliza Coffey, 94, of Route 1, Hiddenite, died Wednesday, March 18, at the residence following an illness of one week.

She was born in Caldwell County, Dec. 23, 1892. She was a daughter of the late Finley Loudermilk and Mary Clark Loudermilk. She was a homemaker. He husband, Cleveland Coffey, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Lester Coffey and Rayford Coffey, both of Lenoir, and Eugene Coffey of Statesville, two daughters Mrs. Zelma Campbell of Hiddenite and Mrs. Nettie Hodge of Lenoir; one brother, Daniel Loudermilk of Taylorsville, and 36 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Services were held today at 2 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Taylorsville. Officiating were the Revs. Homer Baity and Bobby Eads. Burial was in the Rocky Face Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander County.

Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville was in charge of arrangements.

Redford Ray Coffey, age 88, of Collettsville Road, Lenoir, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at his residence.  He was born March 28, 1931 in Alexander County to the late Cleve and Eliza Loudermilk Coffey.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rodessa Gail Coffey; four brothers; and three sisters.

Mr. Coffey owned Coffey’s Drywall and was of the Baptist faith.  He was a great dad, loved his grandchildren and was very generous and caring.  He never met a stranger and anywhere he went he always made lots of friends. Mr. Coffey was very outgoing and loved hunting, hiking, camping and biking.

Survivors include four sons, David Coffey and wife Jennifer, Eddie Coffey, Danny Coffey and wife Amy and Timmy Coffey and wife Jessica, all of Lenoir; one daughter, Kathy Coffey of Statesville; one brother, Eugene Coffey and wife Linda of Statesville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Patty Eades Coffey of Statesville; and his companion and caregiver, Caroline Wilson.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Raymond Spann.  Interment will immediately follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery, Statesville, NC.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Per Mr. Coffey’s request, serving as pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 or Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Ave NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
