Edith Vines

Edith Coffey Vines, 86, of Avery County, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Lenoir Health Care.

She was born in Avery County to the late Julius Adore Coffey and the late Eliza Jane Dellinger Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Barnes; second husband, William P. Vines; sisters, Gertrude Woody, Minnie Pinion, Mae Oxentine, Retha Barnes; brothers, Ernest, Joseph, David and William Coffey; and a great-grandson, Heath Key.

She was a homemaker and a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and church treasurer.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Lillian Ford and her husband Tatum of Lenoir; a step-son, Otis Vines and his wife Joyce; grandsons, Stan Ford, Kelly Ford, Lyle Ford and Darrell Vines; granddaughters, Gaye Key, Jackie Bradshaw and Regina Kilby; great-grandchildren, Seth Bradshaw, Kasey Bradshaw, Trevor Key, Garrett Ford, Devin Ford, Gabby Whorley, Kaydin Ford, Hunter Vines, Daryl-Hannah Vines and Deanna Kilby. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 26 at Pendry's Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Saturday in Pendry's Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steven Coonse and the Rev. David Benfield officiating. Burial will follow at New Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Avery County.

Serving as pallbearers will be the grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family has requested memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202 or to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Edith Iowa Coffey and Willie Harrison Barnes were married. Willie Harrison Barnes, son of Mance Milow Barnes and Mary Elizabeth Hedden, was born on 30 January 1915 in Macon Co., NC. Willie enlisted in the in the US Army on 28 December 1942 at Camp Croft, Spartanburg Co., SC.36042 Willie died cancer on 8 December 1964 at the age of 49 in Oteen, Asheville Twp., Buncombe Co., NC and was buried at Cary Flat Cemetery in Gragg, Avery Co., NC on 9 December 1964.36043,36044

Edith Iowa Coffey and William Paul Vines were married. William Paul Vines was born on 9 February 1912 in North Carolina. William died in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC on 17 April 2000.34464
