12332. Mary Coffey was born in August 1912 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC. She lived with her parents in Wilson Creek Twp., Avery Co., NC on 17 January 1920. Mary Coffey and Fred Roosevelt Oxentine were married on 23 August 1927 in Boone Twp., Watauga Co., NC.36018 They36018 appeared in the census on 7 May 1930 in Boone, Watauga Co., NC.36019 Additional children were born to this family after 1930.

Fred married Lizzie shortly after May's death in 1938, and several children were born to that union. Fred Roosevelt Oxentine, son of James W. Oxentine and Elizabeth , was born on 22 February 1901 in Watauga Co., NC. He lived with his parents in Boone, Watauga Co., NC on 22 April 1910.36020 Fred died in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 27 January 1978 and was buried at36021 Winkler Cemetery in Boone, Watauga Co., NC in January 1978 .36022

The only Fred R. Oxentine found in NC in 1910 was the son of James W. and Elizabeth Oxendine [sic]. He was the seventh of eight children born to that couple at the time of the census. The entire family was enumerated as "mulatto" but were Native Americas of the Lumbee tribe.

The only reason I hesitate to place Fred who married Mae into this family is the fact that in all future documentation; e.g., births, marriages, census, etc., he and his children were "white."
