9787. Max Oliver "Maxie" Coffey was born on 19 January 1916 in Buena Vista, Independent City, VA. He lived with his parents in Buena Vista, Independent City, VA on 19 January 1920. He lived with his parents in Buena Vista, Independent City, VA on 14 April 1930. Max died on 29 May 2000 at the age of 84 in Beckley, Raleigh Co., WV and was buried at In West Virginia.

Max Oliver Coffey, 84, of Edmond, W. Va., a native of Buena Vista, native [sic], died Monday, May 29, in a Beckley W. Va. hospital.

He was born Jan. 19, 1916, son of the late Henry Coffey and Molly Oliver Coffey. He was married for 64 years to May Lee Bryant Coffey and was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Fayetteville, W. Va., serving on the deacon board. He was a coal miner with New River Coal Co. for 42 years before retiring and was a member of the UMWA for 66 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Max O. Coffey Jr., of Edmond and Frank Coffey of Gatewood, W. Va.; four daughters, Nancy Coffey Scarbro of Grants, N.M., Peggy Coffey Kelly of Biloxi, Miss., Mary Coffey Harter of Atlanta, Ga., and Terry Coffey Treadway of Beckwith, W. Va.; four sisters, Etta Gilbert, Louise "Georgie" Henson, Joyce Coffey and Audrey Staton, all of Buena Vista; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral and burial took place Friday in West Virginia.

EDMOND — Mary Lee Coffey, 97, of Edmond, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at home.

Born on November 6, 1916 at Tams, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Annie Mae Haney Bryant.

Mrs. Coffey was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Gatewood. She worked and retired from Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, as a cook.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Max Coffey, Sr.; six brothers; one sister; son-in-law, Lowell Scarbro; and six grandchildren.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her children: Nancy Scarbro of Grants, NM, Peggy (Scotty) Kelley of Fayetteville, Mary Etta (Jack) Harter of Atlanta, Ga., Max (Barbara) Coffey Jr. of Edmond, Orval "Frank" (Mary Ellen) Coffey of Gatewood, and Terry (Charlie) Treadway of Fayetteville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Gatewood, with Pastor Rick Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at the Coffey Family Cemetery at Edmond.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of the service at the church.
