9789. Robert L. Coffey was born on 16 June 1920 in Buena Vista, Independent City, VA. He lived with his parents in Buena Vista, Independent City, VA on 14 April 1930. Robert died in Port Charlotte, Charlotte Co., FL on 28 July 1999.

Robert L. Coffey, 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Fairfield, died Wednesday, July 28, at a Port Charlotte hospital.

He was born June 16, 1920, in Buena Vista, son of the late Henry Coffey and Molly Oliver Coffey. He was married to Helen T. Coffey and attended St. Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. He worked for many years at the Sigma Nu Fraternity headquarters in Lexington before retiring in the early '80s. He was a member of the D.A.V. in Port Charlotte and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert L. Coffey Jr. of Lake Suzy, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara L. Gray of Potomac Falls and Suzanne M. Wade of Lexington; three sisters, Georgie Henson, Audrey Staton and Joyce Coffey, all of Buena Vista; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A private funeral was held July 30 at Boca Grande, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to the America Cancer Society.
