Hattie died at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV on 2 June 2004 and was buried at Richwood Cemetery in Richwood, Nicholas Co., WV on 5 June 2004 . RICHWOOD - Hattie Thelma Kesterson Coffey, 82, of Richwood passed away June 2, 2004, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, after an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Gatewood, Fayette County, a daughter of the late Jesse James and Nellie Rae Workman Kesterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hansford Samuel Coffey, on May 6, 1946; five brothers, Ernest, Luther, James, Howard and Thomas Kesterson; and six sisters, Pauline Burton, Christine Bryant, Biddie Bryant, Ruby Adkins Currin, Ruth Lawrence and Maggie Alice Kesterson.

Thelma attended Cunard Elementary School and graduated from Fayetteville High School. She believed in America and left home to work in the factories in Elkton, Md., during World War II to show her support of her country. Thelma also worked as an accountant in the office of Harris and McClure, Richwood.

Survivors include a son, Robert Wayne Coffey and his wife, Glenna, of Richwood; two grandsons, Paul Wayne Coffey and companion, Susanne Lewis and James Starr III, all of Richwood; one granddaughter, Maxinia Starr Head and husband, Timothy, of Richwood; two great-grandchildren, Michael Wayne Coffey and Timothy Head; and three sisters-in-law, Shirley Wright Kesterson of Hundred, Marie Shrewsbury Kesterson of Elkton, Md., Mary Tolliver Kesterson of Franklin.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
