6764. Rosa Coffey was born on 20 August 1880 in Morristown, Hamblen Co., TN. Rosa died of pneumonia on 27 February 1914 at the age of 33 in Tushka, Atoka Co., OK and was buried at Tushka Cemetery in Atoka Co., OK in February 1914 .22446

Rosa Coffey and John Davis Welch were married on 14 March 1900 in Morristown, Hamblen Co., TN. In census year 1910 Rosa and John was residing in Wilson Twp., Atoka Co., OK.22447

After Rosa became sick, John D. Welch hired a live-in housekeeper, cook, baby sitter. After Rosa died, John D. left the children with this woman while he went off to work. The surviving children believe that this woman killed the two little girls, either by neglect, abuse, or perhaps even poisoning. There is no doubt that she physically abused the children who survived. This woman was not their step-mother, Rebecca Isabelle Larkey, who married John D. Welch in 1927 John Davis Welch, son of Henry E. Welch and Mary Matilda Coffey, was born on 17 May 1878 in Morristown, Hamblen Co., TN. John died on 25 September 1947 at the age of 69 in La Harpe, Allen Co., KS and was buried at La Harpe Cemetery in La Harpe, Allen Co., KS.

Dolley Welch was born on 11 April 1909 in Oklahoma. She lived with her parents in Wilson Twp., Atoka Co., OK on 10 May 1910. Dolley died on 14 June 1914 at the age of 5 in Tushka, Atoka Co., OK and was buried at Tushka Cemetery in Tushka, Atoka Co., OK.22448

John Leslie Welch was born on 28 February 1911 in Tushka, Atoka Co., OK. He lived with his father and step-mother in Good Twp., Harper Co., OK on 17 April 1930. John died of a a stroke on 31 July 1994 at the age of 83 in Waurika, Jefferson Co., OK and was buried at Waurika Cemetery in Waurika, Jefferson Co., OK.22449,22450

John had a short leg as the result of beatings he received from his caregiver as a child.

He never married but, did have a relationship with the daughter of a family that he lived with as a teenager. She became pregnant and gave birth to a little girl. Her parents would not allow them to marry because John was “a cripple.” John maintained a relationship with the girl's adoptive family, and she knew him as “a friend of the family.” After the death of her adoptive parents, John told her that he was her father and made her his heir.

The child is Doris Ilene Lyon (1936 - still living).

John graduated from Kibby High School, Harper Co., OK on May 18, 1929. He was valedictorian of his class.

John was a precision machinist for McDonald-Douglas Aircraft in Wichita, KS for many years. He moved to Waurika, Jefferson, OK after he retired in the late 1970s. He was a Scottish Rite Mason.
