In the name of God Amen. I Humphrey Coffey of Russell County KY being in my perfect memory & of sound and disposing mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death am wishing to dispose of such property and affects as it has pleased God to bless me with so far that purpose make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking any and all other will or wills by me heretofore made or declaired either by words or in writing and this only to be taken as my last will as follows (to wit) First it is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my estate by my executor here after appointed using for that purpose first personal estate second it is further my will and desire that my beloved wife Lucy shall (if she survives me) have all of my property and affects real, personal and mixed for and during her natural life or during her widowhood if she married I desire her to have one third of all my property or the same interest in my estate which she would have had I died intestate while she remains single I desire and hereby empower her to sell and convey and by such sale & convey and to pass the title to any of the property which I have willed to her for her support of for reinvestment as she may think proper If my wife Lucy should marry I desire two thirds of my estate and all of it except my wife dower & distribution shares above willed to her in that event to go to and vest in my niece Lucy Ellen Bledsoe and if she should die childless she is to give it by will or otherwise as she thinks proper I appoint my wife Lucy my sole executor and do not require of her any security whatever If she should marry and vacate said office I leave it to be filled by appointment of the proper court made and executed this 24th day of June 1865 Humphrey Coffey, in the presence of

Codicil the first I desire to change the foregoing will in this I will and bequeath all of my estate of every description to my beloved wife for and during her life whether she shall marry again or not and at her death it is my will and desire that my niece Lucy Ellen Bledsoe shall have all of my estate of every description that may remain at my said wife’s death Given under my hand this 10th of February 1866 Signed and published in the presence H. A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of Humphrey Coffey, decd, was produced to the court and fully proven by the oaths of William P. Payne and Joseph E. Hays two of the subscribing witnesses there to and the codicil there to attached was fully proven by George Bryan and James L. Willoughby subscribing witnesses there to Is is ordered that said will and codicil be established and recorded as the true last will and testament of said Humphrey Coffey, decd It appearing that said will appointed Lucy Coffey sole executrix and directed that no bond be taken by the court from said Executrix She had the oath required by law administered to her in open court

Humphrey died between 10 February 1866 and September 1866. He had his estate probated in September 1866 in Russell Co., KY.

Harris names this child Umphrey.

There is a land patent record in Cumberland Co., KY for a Humphrey Coffey. Patent No. 11284, Grant Book 23, Page 8, lists 69 acre patent for Humphrey on Sexton Creek. Survey date was Sep. 23, 1947, and grant date was Jun. 30, 1848.

Humphrey Coffey and Lucy J. Bledsoe were married. They appeared in the census on 17 September 1850 in Cumberland Co., KY.2732 They2732 appeared in the census on 2 June 1860 in Russell Co., KY.2733 Lucy J. Bledsoe was born circa 1809 in Kentucky. She lived with the John D. Calhoun family in Russell Co., KY on 7 June 1870.2734 On 2 June 1880 Lucy still resided in Russell Co., KY with the John D. Calhoun family and recorded as his Aunt.. Lucy died in Russell Co., KY between November 1884 and February 1885. She made her will on 5 November 1884 in Russell Co., KY.2735

The last Will and Testament of Lucy J. Coffey

In the name of God Amen. I Lucy J. Coffey while in my proper mind wish to dispose of my real and personal property viz: - It is my will that at my death John D. Calhoun shall have all my land consisting of 150 acres a part of the trace on which the sand John D. Calhoun now lives. Also it is my will that he have all my personal property if any on hand at my death. This my last will and testament given under my hand this 5th day of November 1884. Lucy J. Coffey

I also appoint John D. Calhoun my Executor to carry out this will without bond.

Wells clerk of the Russell County Court certify that the foregoing instrument of writing was on the 16th day of February 1885 produced in open court and fully proven by the oaths of Daniel Wilson and Willis G. Murrell the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be established and recorded as the last Will and Testament of Lucy J. Coffey Decd. Whereupon I have recorded the same together with this certificate in my office. Given under my hand this 26th day of February 1885. A. C. Wells Clk R. C. C. Lucy's will was proven on 16 February 1885 in Russell Co., KY.
