9094. Pitt Woodroof (Pittward) "Pitt" Coffey was born on 29 December 1854 in Virginia.
According to his death certificate, he was 67 yrs. old when he died. His birthdate was given as Dec. 29, but year was not given. Pitt died of cancer of the stomach on 9 January 1922 at the age of 67 at 906 Main St. (home) in Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV and was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV on 10 January 1922.27717,27718

Shortly after his marriage to Lucy, Pitt departed Virginia with Flavona and moved to West Virginia. Lucy obtained a judgment against Pitt in Amherst Co. in the May term of 1896. She was awarded $39.37 (Judgment Docket No. 2, 1876-1899, Amherst Co., VA).

Flavona was the daughter of one of the Fletcher's who founded Sweet Briar College at Sweet Briar in Amherst Co., VA. She sold her interest for $5000 on Feb. 20, 1901 (Docket Book 51, Page 179). At that time she was residing in Kanawah Co., WV..

In 1900 Pitt was a farmer in Kanawah Co. By 1910 he was a retired grocer merchant.

Pitt Woodroof was a Methodist minister at the Macedonia Church in Coffeytown and believed to be the source for the name of several boys born in that area during his tenure.
