7229. John Lewis Coffey was born on 31 March 1874 in Grove, Green Co., KY. John died on 20 September 1952 at the age of 78 in Green Co., KY and was buried at Hudson Cemetery in Greensburg, Green Co., KY.²³⁵⁹⁶

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bethlehem Baptist Church for John Lewis Coffey, a retired blacksmith and farmer, who died Saturday at his home in Gresham section, at the age of 78. Services were conducted by Rev. Claude Squires and Rev. V.A. Jones. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The son of the late I.S. Coffey & Mrs. Bell Coffey, he was born in Green County March 31, 1874, and died September 20. He professed faith in Christ some years ago. He united in marriage to Miss Susan Moore, August 1899.

To this union 9 children were born. Surviving are his wife and 2 daughters, Mrs. Paul Hood, Green County, Mrs. Junius Sullivan, Taylor County, 6 sons, Vaughn, Shively, Thomas, Ellis and Kenneth Coffey, all of Green County, Perry Coffey of Chatham, IL. He is also survived by 1 brother, O.A. Coffey, Green County; 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Paxton, Green County, Mrs. Ben Paxton, Louisville, and 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Active pallbearers were Marshall Paxton, Cecil Paxton, Duard Paxton, Lucian Squires, Lewis Moore and Omar Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers were Will Nunn, Marshall Shuffett, Eugene Shuffett, Jim Bridgewater, Kenneth Rogers, John Hopkins, Chester Judd, George Sharp and Leo Webb.

John Lewis Coffey and Susan L. Moore were married on 24 August 1899 in Adair Co., KY.²³⁵⁹⁷ Susan L. Moore was born on 26 March 1873 in Green Co., KY. Susan died on 5 December 1954 at the age of 81 in Green Co., KY and was buried at Hudson Cemetery in Greensburg, Green Co., KY.²³⁵⁹⁸
