Betty Jane Coffey, 76, of Mt. Torrey Road, Lyndhurst, went to be with the Lord, at her residence, on Friday, February 10, 2012. She was born on January 15, 1936, in Nelson County, the daughter of the late Clarence Henry and Maywood Sorrells Coffey.

She retired from Coffey's Used Cars in 2000. Betty loved spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Genevieve "Jenny" Coffey, Vivian Allen, Velma Quick, Elaine Bryant, and Shirley Maddox; brother, Jerry Dean "J.D." Fitzgerald; and dear friend, Earl M. Coffey Sr. Survivors include her son, Clayton D. Coffey and his wife, Elbia Gomez Coffey; four grandchildren, Aaron, Kathleen "Kayti", Jessika and Angelina "Angel"; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Wiseman and Aubrey Coffey; brother, William H. Coffey and his wife, Kitty; sisters, Vera Falls, Georgie Phillips and Josephine Carr and her husband, Randolph. She is also survived by Garland Coffey and his wife, Diane, their children and grandchildren, Earl D. "Doodie" Coffey and his wife, Joyce, and their children, Earl M. "Dunebug" Coffey and his wife, Donna, and their children and grandchildren; and Pamela "Sissy" Brown and her husband, Mike, and their son and grandchildren, Christina "Tina" McLaughlin and her husband, Eric, and their children and the children and grandchildren of the late Wayne M. Coffey Sr.; several nieces, nephews and close friends; as well as dear friend, Shirley Coffey.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main Street, with Pastor Richard Peters and Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Top Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eric McLaughlin, Garland Coffey, Larry Bryant, David Coffey, Marvin Phillips, Pete Carr, and Buck Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012, at the funeral home and other times at her residence.

The family would like to give a special thank you to those family members who were her special caregivers, Geraldine Quick, Brenda Cline and Josephine Carr.

[It seems that J. D. Fitzgerald and his sister Josephine, were half-siblings to Betty, children by her father with Carrie G. Fitzgerald. Both Fitzgerald siblings were raised by Clarence and Mae. There is no known marriage for Betty.]
