SOMERSET -- William Shelby Coffey, 81, of Friendship Christian Church Home in Louisville, father of Thomas Coffey of Louisville, died Saturday in Louisville. Memorial service was 11 a.m. Monday at Somerset Undertaking Co. Expressions of sympathy to Christian Church Homes of Kentucky or to the Somerset Public Library.

William Shelby Coffey and Nancy Elizabeth Flowers were married. Nancy Elizabeth Flowers, daughter of George Thomas Flowers and Mayme McKechnie, was born on 15 November 1911. Nancy died in Kentucky on 12 November 1983 and was buried at Somerset City Cemetery in Somerset, Pulaski Co., KY in November 1983 .27318,27319

Jolin Flowers Coffey was born on 6 December 1938 in Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. Jolin died in Kentucky on 25 December 2010 and was buried at Somerset City Cemetery in Somerset, Pulaski Co., KY in December 2010 .27320

Obituary from Memorial Site

Jolin Flowers Coffey, 72 years of age, departed this life on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2010 in the early morning hours of respiratory failure after a short stay in Britthaven and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

She was born in Peoria, Illinois on December 6th, 1938. She lived briefly in Louisville, Kentucky prior to moving to Somerset, Kentucky in 1949. She was a 1956 graduate of the Somerset High School and a 1960 graduate of the University of Kentucky. She completed additional graduate studies in various American and European Universities to keep current in her field. She returned to Somerset to enjoy her retirement in 1998. 

Jolin taught Social Studies for the Department of Defense for 30 years primarily in Mannheim, Germany but she taught for a brief period in Fort Knox, Kentucky and on the island of Okinawa. Her students were United States military dependents whose parents served all over the world. She traveled extensively throughout the world. Her most favorite, being a trip on the Orient Express departing from Turkey and visiting many countries in the Orient. Because of her travels, she has many friends all over the world who mourn her passing. 

Jolin was a member of the First Christian Church of Somerset, Kentucky, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and various Veterans and voluntary organizations. She also supported the Dachshund Rescue Organization from which she obtained her dog, Casino, who was her loving companion until death. Special thanks go to so many friends but Sue Crawford Roth and Dr. Joseph Weigel Jr. should be noted specially. 

She was survived by her brother, Thomas H. Coffey of Nashville, Tennessee; two nieces, Diana Lin Frucci of Hanover, Massachusetts and Martha Elizabeth "Beth" Wilson of Cincinnati, Ohio; and four grand nephews, Cade Frucci, Collin Frucci, and Robbie Frucci, and Jack Wilson. 

She was preceded in death by her father, William Shelby Coffey and her mother, Nancy Elizabeth Flowers Coffey; and her brother, William Shelby Coffey Jr. 

Her family received family and friends on Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Somerset, Kentucky with a "Celebration of Life" service that followed at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Couch and Bro. Gene Tarter officiating. 

Interment followed in the Somerset City Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.

Shelby Coffey Jr., age 9, died at Norton Infirmary Monday, following an operation. He was the son of Shelby and Nancy Flowers Coffey and a grandson of the late George Flowers of Monticello. He was here some time ago on a visit to his aunt Mrs. James Phillips.

Funeral services will be held in Louisville Wednesday morning with burial at the Somerset Cemetery Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. The family is moving to Somerset where Mr. Coffey will be in business.
