The Late Thomas R. Blackerby

Silverton, Or., March 5. - (Special.) - Thomas R. Blackerby, who died at his home here Sunday, February 25, after an illness of six weeks, was a well-known pioneer. He was born at Pittsfield, Ill., August 20, 1836; crossed the plains in 1848, and settled with his father, Dr. Joseph Blackerby, on the old donation land claim near Silverton. In 1850 he learned the tinner's trade in Salem. March 6, 1866, he was married to Miss Mary E. Allen and in 1869 moved to Silverton and opened up a tinner's and plumber's shop, which he conducted to the time of his death. He leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Gracie Jones, and a son, Pearl L. Blackerby, all of Silverton.
