Dr. A. F. Blackerby.

Sivlerton, Or., Jan. 20.-(Special.)-Dr. A. F. Blackerby, 80, died last night. He was born on the land donation claim of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Blackerby, on Drift creek near Silverton. The elder Dr. Blackerby was the first physician at Silverton. Dr. Blackerby studied dentistry under Dr. L. F. Skiff at Salem and took post-graduate work at Los Angeles and Philadelphia. He began practive at Silverton in 1884(?).

He married Sophie Ann Gu? in 1895. Two children were born [?] Richard H. Bruce of Edmonton, Wash., and Mrs. W. A. [?] of Omak, Wash. Blackerby [?] served terms as deputy county [?] and one term as county [?] Marion county. From 1906 until [?] he was Silverton postmaster. He [also?] had been republican committee [?] for years. In 1927 he was presented with a 50-year Olld Fellow [?]. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.. from the Ekmar chapel.

Sophia Blackerby

Funeral for Sophia M. Blackerby, 89, of 7205 SE 32nd Ave., will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, from McGinnis & Wilhelm Chapel. Private vault entombment will be at Portland Memorial. Mrs. Blackerby died Friday.

She was a native of Finland, and when 12 years old came with her family to settle at Deep River, Wash. In 1895 she was married to the late Dr. A. F. Blackerby in Astoria. In recent years Mrs. Blackerby made her home with a daughter in Portland.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Bruce, Portland, and Mrs. Art Stivers, Monse, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. W. J. McNamara, Portland, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Christian church in Silverton, and of the Rebecca Lodge and Mizpah Circle.
