Six Die In Weekend Accidents

The State Highway Patrol reported Sunday that six people have died in traffic accidents this weekend.

The death raise this year's traffic toll to 596, compared with 644 at the same time last year.

The latest fatality occurred at 12:44 p.m. Sunday just outside Charlotte on U.S. 74. The patrol said Ricard Dale Coffey, 23, of Charlotte was killed when he was thrown out of the car in which he was a passenger. The car, traveling at high speed, skidded and overturned while attempting to turn in a driveway.
