166. Newton Coffey was born in 1773 in Wilkes Co., NC. He appeared in the census in 1810 in Columbia, Adair Co., KY.541 Newton died in Illinois on 16 August 1858 and was buried at Wright Cemetery in Van Burensburg, Montgomery Co., IL in August 1858 .542,543

At the time of Newton's birth, Wilkes Co. was still Surry Co. The family went to Bond and Montgomery Counties in IL by 1818 where he founded the town of Hillsboro.

Newton Coffey and Sarah Meridith were married in 1802 in Adair Co., KY.544 They544 appeared in the census in 1830 in Montgomery Co., IL.545 Sarah Meridith was born circa 1776 in Kentucky. Sarah died in Montgomery Co., IL on 2 November 1845 and was buried at Wright Cemetery in Van Burensburg, Montgomery Co., IL in November 1845 .546
