Melvin Glenn Maritt passed away Feb. 23, 2010, in Edmond, OK. He was born in the home of his maternal grandparents, John Isadore & Alice May Smith Tescier, at Choctaw, OK May 10, 1929. He was the first child of Chester Glenn Maritt and E. Marie Tescier Maritt. Mel served with the Army in Korea during 1946-47. Mel attended OSU and graduated from UCLA. He enjoyed a very successful career in sales, later establishing a wholesale key and lock supply business in Del City, OK. Mel served as the Citizen Potawatomi Tribal Vice-Chairman in the early 1980's. He married Shirley Avery Jones, of Wichita, KS in 1964, and they lived in the Oklahoma City area for most of their lives. Shirley died June 19, 2009, and Mel resided in Edmond since her passing. He is survived by his beloved daughter Dana Jones Cannon; grandchildren Avery and Maggie; siblings Fran Gordon (Carl), Bud Maritt (Rilla), and Chet Maritt; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mel requested there be no formal service, but a memorial gathering will be held in the Spring.

Shirley Jean Avery, daughter of Frank Avery and Maggie , was born on 16 November 1939 in Lola, Allen Co., KS. Shirley died in Del City, Oklahoma Co., OK on 19 June 2009 her remains were cremated and ashes and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw, Oklahoma Co., OK in June 2009 .48299,48300

Shirley Jean Maritt passed away at her home on June 19, 2009. She was born in Iola, KS, on November 16, 1939 to Frank and Maggie Avery. Shirley worked for Tom Knott & Associates as a property manager before she decided to move back to Del City and run A-Key Supply, the family business. She single-handedly ran the shop until she became ill. Many knew her as the little lady who cut keys, and she was recognized throughout Del City. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Kenneth, Butch and Chuck Avery. Survivors include her beloved husband of 45 years, Mel Maritt of the home; daughter, Dana Cannon; grandchildren, Avery and Maggie Cannon; son-in-law, Scott Cannon of Edmond; brother, Gary Avery; and sisters: Carol Kinion and Karen Avery of Wichita, KS, and Linda Murphy of NC. Shirley was cherished by her friends and family as much as she cherished them. She will forever be missed. Her memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Sunny Lane Chapel.
