Nellie Gray Coffey, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at U.H. Portage Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Nellie was born in Tazewell, Tennessee on December 15, 1934 to parents William Edgar and Edna Edith Cupp. Nellie had worked at the TG&Y Department store in Ravenna and retired from the Ohio License Bureau in Ravenna. She was a member of Grace Church in Rootstown, (formerly New Milford Baptist Church), and had attended there over 60 years. She enjoyed her association with the church, her church family and the many organizations and committees she had been involved with at the church. Nellie loved her grandchildren and her family was her main mission in life. Upon marrying her husband Eugene Coffey, Nellie used to joke that she was the “Cupp” for his Coffey!

Nellie is survived by her son Tim Coffey, granddaughters: Lindsay Coffey, Courtney (Nick) Hartong; grandson Paul (Taryn) Basel and great-grandchildren: Cayden & Carter Coffey, Ezekiel Hartong and Ethan & Haley Basel. She is also survived by her son-in-law Leo Basel and her sister Ruth (Paul) McMurray. Left also to cherish her memory are several nieces and nephews, many friends and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene Coffey, daughter Robin Basel, and siblings: Mary Lou Taylor and Leo “Pete” Cupp.
Friends will be received from 4:00pm until 6:00pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Grace Church, 4808 Tallmadge Rd., Rootstown, Ohio where funeral services, officiated by Pastor Ron Regas, will be held at 6:00pm. Private burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Kidney Foundation in her name.

Nellie’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the special care given to Nellie by the staff of the ICU Unit at U.H. Portage, especially nurse Joel.
