Lorene Sandidge, 70, of Lexington, died Tuesday, October 10, 2000 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mrs. Fifer was born on May 1, 1930 in Buena Vista and was a daughter of Leana Coffey Sandidge of Buena Vista and the late Cameron Blair Sandidge. She was a member of the Manly Memorial Baptist Church, the Lexington Woman's Club, the Arthritis Foundation and the Lexington Golf & Country Club. She was the co-owner of The Emily Shop with her husband. She began her teaching career with Mrs. Fauber's Nursery School and was the owner and operator of the Providence Hill Nursery School for 26 years and continued as a teacher with the Providence II Pre-School until her death. She was preceded in death by two half brothers, Herman Sandidge and Walter Sandidge. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Fifer is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roland L. Fifer of Lexington; two sons and daughters-in-law, R. Edward and Beverley Fifer of Bristol and Stephen B. and Laura Fifer of Ashburn; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra F. and Richard Flora of Roanoke; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Essie S. and Bill Coleman of Lynchburg, Dorothy S. Floyd, Carolyn S. and Bob Withers, Marolyn S. and Donnie Cash, all of Buena Vista; two half sisters, Alpha S. Coleman, and Virginia S. Camden, both of Buena Vista; one brother-in-law, Lurty E. Fifer, Jr., of Arroya Grande, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Fifer, Matthew, Allison, Anna, Audrey Fifer, and Kristin Flora; one stepgrandson, R. Terrill Flora; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Michelle Flora; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2000 from the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. Thomas G. Harvey officiating with burial to follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Manly Memorial Baptist Church 202 S. Main Street, Lexington, Va. 24450, or the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 406, Buena Vista, Va. 24416. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington. Her wonderful memory will live on through her beloved family and the lives of children she loved and taught.

Roland Lee Fifer, 77, of Lexington, died Sunday, June 17, 2007. He was born July 7, 1929 in Lexington, a son of the late Lurty Edward Fifer, Sr. and Carrie Elsie Wease Fifer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 50 years, Lorene Sandidge Fifer. Mr. Fifer was a former owner/operator of East Lexington Grocery, The Emily Shop, and Providence Hill Nursery School. He is survived by two sons, R. Edward Fifer and fianc, Ann Johnson, Bristol, Va. and Stephen B. Fifer and wife, Laura, Ashburn, Va.; and a daughter, Sandra Flora and husband, Richard, Roanoke, Va.; a devoted brother and caregiver, Lurty E. Fifer, Jr., Lexington; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson and husband, Jason, Waxhaw, N.C., Michael Fifer, Bristol, Va., Matthew Fifer, Allison Fifer, Anna Fifer, Audrey Fifer, all of Ashburn, Va.; Kristin Flora, Roanoke, Va.; and Jennifer and Michael's mother, Beverley B. Fifer, Bristol, Va. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Essie S. Coleman and husband, Bill, Lynchburg, Dorothy S. Floyd, Marolyn S. Cash and husband, Donnie, and Carolyn S. Withers and husband, Bob, and Virginia Camden, all of Buena Vista. Special thanks to Rockbridge Area Hospice, and donations may be made to them in lieu of flowers at P.0. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with Dr. Michael Wilkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
