Bernita Elnora Allen, daughter of William Edward Allen and Lavinia Irene Cobel, was born on 30 August 1919 in Corydon, Wayne Co., IA. Bernita died on 27 August 2008 at the age of 88 in Corydon, Wayne Co., IA and was buried at Graceland Cemetery in Creston, Union Co., IA.40048,40049

Bernita Coffey, 88 of Corydon, Iowa, formerly of Creston, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Bernita E. Coffey was born August 30, 1919 in Corydon, Iowa to Lavina Irene (Cobel) and William Edward Allen. Bernita was educated in Corydon schools. On October 30, 1939, Bernita was united in marriage to Marvin Wayne Coffey in Corydon. They lived and worked in the Corydon area until 1955, when they moved to Creston. Bernita was a homemaker. Marvin died in 1996. Bernita then moved back to Corydon.

Bernita was an artist and a fantastic seamstress. She loved flower gardens, her outdoor pets, playing the piano, and her dog, Shiloh. Bernita was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston and the American Legion Auxiliary in Corydon.

Survivors include three daughters: Banetah (husband Phillip) McGinley of Mesa, Arizona; Eleanor (husband Orval) Dady of Corydon, Ia.; Ruth Ann Jones of Corydon, Ia.,; one son: Billy (wife Denise Lanier) Coffey of Goose Creek, S.C., nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren and two step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Marvin, a granddaugter at birth; Deana Dady, a grandson, Archie Alan McGinley in infancy, a sister; Ernestine Allen, and a brother; Delbert Allen in infancy.
