He lived with his parents in Lyndhurst, Augusta Co., VA on 7 May 1910. Rev. Coffey was the Minister at Fairfield Methodist Church, Rockbridge Co., VA from 1916 to 1920. He registered for the WWI draft on 5 June 1917 in Fairfield, Rockbridge Co., VA and on13530 27 April 1942 for the WW2 draft in Roanoke, VA.13531,13532 He appeared on the passenger list of the Vulcania as a returning tourist from Genoa, Italy on 14 August 195113533 Rev. Mr. Coffey, Clergyman, Dies at 85

The Rev. Harry Scott Coffey of The Hermitage, a retired United Methodist minister, died Saturday. He was 85.

He was superintendent of the Danville District of the Methodist Church from 1942 to 1958. He served as pastor in Fairfield, Elkton, Roanoke, Woodstock, Covington, Petersburg, Arlington and Lynchburg, where he retired in 1961.

In addition to his ministerial service, Mr. Coffey led many study trips to Europe and the Near East as an officer in Pilgrimage Associates.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ruby Black of Staunton; a brother, Russell E. Coffey of Bluefield, W. Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Hal M. Hazel of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Mrs. Terrell Smith Jr.. of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and two sons, Harry S. Coffey Jr. of Norfolk and the Rev. John H. Coffey of Richmond.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stuarts Draft.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the Harry S. Coffey Scholarship Foundation at the United Methodist Building in Richmond.

Rev. Harry Scott Coffey D.D. and Julia Durham were married in May 1916 in Georgia.

Miss Durham is the granddaughter of the late Judge Augustus Reese of Madison, GA., and a niece of the late Judge Seaborn Reese, of Sparta. Mr. Coffey is of a distinguished Virginia family. Julia is the daughter of Yula Reese Durham, found in the 1900 Hancock Co., GA census with Julia, born Dec., 1893. Head of household was Seaborn Reese, brother to Yula. Another Durham child in the household was George H., born Feb., 1892.
