"Baltimore, Md., March 12. - Performing what is said to be a most unusual operation made possible only by recent discoveries of surgery, Dr. William S. Baer to-day, at the Church Home Infirmary, transplanted the muscles of Miss Ruth Coffey, of Lenoir, N. C., in a effort to stay the ravages upon her system caused by infantile paralysis. The operation was pronounced quite successful.

"Miss Coffey is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Coffey, of Lenoir. A cousin of her, Miss Irene Coffey, also of Lenoir, who has also been brought to Baltinore to be treatef for the same malady, will be operated upon Thursday.

"Miss Ruth Coffey has been afflicted with the paralysis practically since childhood." Ruth Irene of Boone, Watauga Co., NC was in a Baltimore Sanitorium on on 21 March 1912 for unspecified treatment.18165 Ruth died in Boone, Watauga Co., NC on 29 March 1982 and was buried at Boone City Cemetery in Boone, Watauga Co., NC in May 1982 .18166

Ruth Irene Coffey and Remmell Bartlett Porter were married on 27 January 1931 in Johnson City, Washington Co., TN.18167

Mrs. Remmel Porter of Jonesville, Ark., who before her marriage January 27 was Miss Ruth Coffey, daughter of the late E. S. Coffey and Mrs. Coffey of Boone. The marriage was not announced until the past week. Remmell Bartlett Porter, son of James Rufus Porter and Ella King, was born on 18 September 1900 in Johnson Co., AR. Remmell died on 30 November 1954 and was buried at Boone City Cemetery in Boone, Watauga Co., NC in December 1954 .18168,18169
