Ralph Washington Jones, Sr.

Caldwell County native

Ralph Washington Jones, Sr.., 81, of 421 Melrose St., SW, Lenoir, died Tuesday at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Born June 1, 1906 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late John W. Jones and Mary S. Cannon Jones.

Mr. Jones was self-employed and a member of the Harris Chapel Baptist Church. He also belonged to the Foothills Antique Auto Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Coffey Jones; one son George Sylvester Jones, and one daughter, Peggy Ann Jones.

Survivors include three sons, Franklin Delano Jones of Potlach, Idaho, Ralph Washington Jones Jr. of Hudson, and Paul Stuart Jones of Lenoir; two daughters, Mrs. C. D. (Thelma Lee) Payne of Boone and Mrs. Norval V. (Imogene) Bishop of Lenoir; one brother, Boyce Hampton Jones of Hudson; two sisters; Virginia Haigler of Charlotte and Ruby Jones Wynn of Hudson; 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Hardin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Jones, Curtis Payne, Donald Payne, Milton Foster, Rich Jones, Ryan Bishop, Carl Hefner and Terry Grimes.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church for the Deaf c/o Imogene Bishop, 421 Melrose St., Lenoir.

George was apparently killed during WWII. His military marker tells us that he was a Pfc in the 7th Infantry. The 7th served in the Pacific and fought battles against the Japanese in the Aleutians, Leyte and Okinawa. The division was deactivated in 2006.

Ralph Washington Jones Jr. was born on 6 March 1936 in Watauga Co., NC. Ralph Jr. died on 27 April 2010 at the age of 74 at Catawba Valley Memorial Hospital in Hickory, Catawba Co., NC and was buried at Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 2 May 2010.

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Ralph W. Jones, age 74, of Lenoir, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Catawba Valley Memorial Hospital in Hickory. Ralph was born March 6, 1936 in Watauga County to the late Ralph W. Jones, Sr. and Lela Coffey Jones.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Jones, two sisters, Thelma Payne and Peggy Jones and one brother, Sylvester Jones.

Ralph was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church and the Cajah’s Mt. Archery Club. He was a retired security guard with Broyhill Furniture and had worked at the Coy Miller Convenience Site.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory are his wife, Freida Edmisten Jones; his son, Darrell Jones and wife Beth of Lenoir; his daughter, Casey Jones of Lenoir; his step-son, David Hinson of Lenoir; 2 brothers, Paul Jones and wife Pat of Lenoir; Frank Jones and wife Irene of Idaho, one sister, Jean Bishop and husband Norval of Lenoir and two grandsons, Joshua Jones and wife Nayeli and Jordan Jones, all of Lenoir.

A celebration of Mr. Jones’ life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Mulberry Baptist Church with Reverend Bennett Helton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, from 2:00 until 3:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be: Joshua Jones, Jordan Jones, David Hinson, Michael Sallie, Neil Adams and Bob Halsey.

The family respectfully requests memorials be made to Mulberry Baptist Church, 4831 Mulberry Church Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Death Takes Peggy Ann Jones

Peggy Ann Jones, 11-year-old daughter of Ralph W. Jones Sr., and Mrs. Lela Coffey Jones of Lenoir, Route Eight, passed away Tuesday night at a Winston-Salem hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Setzer's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Harris Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body will be removed to the home at 5:30 p.m. Thursday from Lenoir Funeral Home, and it will be placed in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the rites.

Born in Watauga County Dec. 4, 1948, Peggy Ann was a member of Setzer's Creek Baptist Church and a student at Happy Valley school.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are three brothers, Franklin Jones of Ashe County, Ralph H. Jones, Jr. of Caldwell County and Paul Stewart Jones of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Lee Payne of Boone and Mrs. Imogene Bishop of Caldwell County; and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Jones of Hudson

Imogene Jones Bishop, age 73, of Melrose St. SW, Lenoir, died Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was born December 29, 1939 in Watauga County to the late Ralph W. Jones, Sr. and Lela Coffey Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lora Bishop Grimes; three brothers, Franklin Jones, Ralph Jones, Jr. and George Sylvester Jones; two sisters, Thelma Payne and Peggy Ann Jones; and grandson, Heath Alan Isenhour.

Mrs. Bishop was a homemaker and a member of Crossroads Community Church.

Survivors include her husband, Norval Bishop of the home; one son, Norval Ryan Bishop and wife Carol of Sykesville, Maryland; two daughters, Mary Leigh Bishop of Lenoir and Ann Arlene Bishop of Nebo; one brother, Paul Stuart Jones and wife Pat of Lenoir; two grandchildren, Dakota Leigh Bishop and Stephanie Robinson and husband Donovan; and three great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Crossroads Community Church conducted by Pastor Rick Bowman. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Storehouse Food Ministry, 2075 Morganton Blvd., Lenoir, N.C. 28645.
