Nellie Coffey

Nellie Sumpter Coffey, 82, died Thursday, July 20, 1995, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 14, 1913, in Caldwell County to the late William Pendleton and Margaret Ella Robins Sumpter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Collis H. Coffey; four brothers, Joe Sumpter, Dewey Sumpter, Leonard Sumpter, and Grady Sumpter; two sisters, Effie Joplin and Pearl Tuttle.

Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker and a member of Crestview Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Collis H. Coffey, Jr. of Lenoir; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Maxine) Matheson of Lenoir; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dean Harrold conducting. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8:30 at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rich Matheson, Doug McGailliard, Jr., Gary Sumpter, Grady Sumpter, Jr., Robert Roland and Carroll Cloer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Caldwell County Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, N.C. 28645

Collis H. Coffey Jr. "C.H.," 74, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. He was born in Caldwell County on Sept. 23, 1939, to the late Collis H. Coffey Sr. and Nellie Sumpter Coffey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, the Rev. Richard "Dale" Matheson.

He is survived by his sister, Maxine C. Matheson; nephew, Richard D. (Rick) Matheson Jr. and wife Diane; niece, Kim McGalliard and husband Doug; double first cousins, Gary Sumpter and wife Ann, and Grady Sumpter Jr.; several other cousins; and 16 great-nieces and greatnephews.

A memorial ser vice for C.H. will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at 6 p.m. with Carlene Horton and Reverend Gary Matheson officiating.
