Hickory Boy Drowns in South Fork River

Body of Grady Coffey, 19, Not Found At McAdenville.

Gastonia, Aug. 8.00 Grady Coffey, 19, of the Brookford mill community near Hickory, drowned late yesterday while wading in the South Fork (Catawba) river, near McAdenville.

The body had not been found early this afternoon, although divers had joined others in seeking it.

Coroner C. C. Wallace said the youth drowned when, unable to swim, he stepped into a hole. His friend tried in vain to save him.

Coffey was visiting his sister, Mrs. Philip Barrett in McAdenville. Other survivors are his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
