He registered for the WWI draft on 12 September 1918 in Columbia, Adair Co., KY.11180 Samuel died of arteriosclerotic heart disease and was buried at on 19 September 1959 at the age of 78 in Adair Co., KY and was buried at the Conover Family Cemetery in Gentrys Mill, Adair Co., KY.11181,11182

Samuel Marion Coffey of the White Oak Community in Adair County died at his home on Saturday, September 19, after an illness of several months. He was 78 years of age.

His first wife, Sarah Emma Conover Coffey, preceded him in death in 1933. Five children were born to this union. In 1937 he married Ethel Squires, who survives him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Mrs. Mary Lizzie Powell, Garlin; Everett Coffey, Columbia; Bascom Coffey, Chicago, Ill.; William G. Coffey, Forrest, Ill.; and Joe P. Coffey, Louisville; two brothers, Andy Coffey, Montpelier, and Arthur Coffey, Columbus, Ind.; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The Rev. Noah Page and the Rev. James C. Porter conducted the funeral services on Monday, September 21, at the White Oak Baptist Church. Interment with Masonic rites was in the Conover Family Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Stotts & Phelps Funeral Home. 

Samuel Marion Coffey and Sarah Emma Conover were married on 19 February 1905 in Russell Co., KY.11183 They11183 appeared in the census on 28 April 1910 in White Oak Pct., Adair Co., KY.11184 They11184 appeared in the census on 3 April 1930 on the Middle Jamestown Road in White Oak Pct., Adair Co., KY.11185 Sarah Emma Conover, daughter of William H. Conover and Sarah E. Stapp, was born on 4 December 1882 in Adair Co., KY. Sarah died of heart and liver disease on 23 April 1933 at the age of 50 in White Oak Pct., Adair Co., KY and was buried at the Conover Family Cemetery in Gentrys Mill, Adair Co., KY on 24 April 1933.11186,11187,11188

Mrs. Sam Coffey, 50 years of age, died at her home near Montpelier, last Sunday night, after a lingering illness.

Mrs. Coffey was born and reared in the Montpelier neighborhood and had spent all of her life there. Before her marriage she was Miss Sarah Emma Conover, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Conover. The deceased was a splendid Christian woman, having united with the Baptist Church at the age of 13.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Miss Mary Elizabeth Coffey, and four sons, Bascom, Joe, Pink, and Everett Coffey. She also leaves several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at the church by the pastor, Rev. Ferrell, of Greensburg, and the remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery (The Adair County News, Apr 26, 1933).

Bascom Edgar Coffey was born on 21 August 1910 in Adair Co., KY. Bascom died at Humana Hospital in Enterprise, Coffee Co., AL on 1 February 1986 His burial place is in Columbia, KY but site is unknown to me.11189,11190

COLUMBIA - Bascom Edgar Coffey, 75, of Enterprise, Ala., formerly of Adair and Russell counties, husband of Mayme Coffey, died yesterday at Humana Hospital Enterprise. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at
Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. Visitation will be after 5:30 p.m. today.

Philetus Everett Coffey.

Samuel Marion Coffey and Ethel Squires were married on 27 May 1937 in Columbia, Adair Co., KY.11192 They11192 appeared in the census on 6 May 1940 in Adair Co., KY.11193 Ethel Squires, daughter of Luther Squires and Sally , was born on 30 March 1899 in Green Co., KY. She lived with her parents in Exie, Green Co., KY on 12 June 1900. Ethel died at Medco Nursing Home in Campbellsville, Taylor Co., KY on 26 November 1986 and was buried at Summershade Cemetery in Summershade, Green Co., KY on 28 November 1986 .11194

Mrs. Ethel Squires Coffey, daughter of the late Mr. Luther Squires and Mrs. Sally Squires, was born 30 Mar 1899 in Green Co., and departed this life at 9 pm Wed. 26 Nov at the Medco Nursing Home in Campbellsville. She was 87 years, 7 months and 27 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Summershade Methodist Church at the time of her death.

She united in marriage to Mr. Sam Coffey, who preceded her in death. She is survived by 1 step-son, Mr. Joe P. Coffey of Louisville; 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Lizzie Powell of Louisville. She is also survived by 1 half-brother, Mr. Ewell Dehoney of Greensburg; 1 half-sister, Mrs. Verna Thomas of Louisville; 1 niece, Mrs. Corrine Loy; 2 nephews, Mr. Will Ed Shuffett and Mr. James Robert Shuffett, both of Greensburg, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

The remains were at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home where funeral services were conducted at 1 pm Fri 28 Nov with burial in the Summershade Cem. Rev. Ralph Lee officiated. Pallbearers were Shelby Patterson, David Cundiff, L.C. Reliford, Thurman Hancock, Joe Shuffett and Eunie Burris.
