Coffey, Dudley - 92, of Stearns, Ky., died August 24, 1998, in Somerset, Ky. Born in Oneida, Tenn., September 2, 1905, he was the son of the late William and Etta Litton Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded also in death by one son, Bennie Coffey; one daughter-in-law, Mary Coffey; three brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren. He retired from Stearns Coal & Lumber Company in 1987, and was selected as Coal Miner of the Year in 1992. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Gertie Taylor Coffey of Stearns, Ky.; four sons: Hoyt Coffey and wife, Betty, of Muncie, Ind.; Kenneth Coffey and his wife, Bernice, of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters: Phyllis Ferrara and husband, Peter; and Jewlene Dobbs and husband, Ellard, all of Stearns; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Hickman Strunk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral service was to be held August 26, 1998, at Hickman Strunk Funeral Home in Whitley City, Ky. Interment was to follow in Litton Cemetery in Oneida.

Gertie Elizabeth Coffey, age 94 years, 11 months, and 27 days, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006 at the McCreary County Health and Rehab Center in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Staley and Bro. Roger Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the Litton Cemetery in Oneida, Tennessee.

She was born February 24, 1911 in Scott County, Tennessee to Sidney Taylor and Nannie Sweeny Taylor King. She was a homemaker and a member of the Yamacraw Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, needle point, visiting neighbors, canning, preserving, and she was a wonderful cook and also a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Preceding her in death were her parents, he husband, Dudley Coffey, whom she married on April 2, 1927, a son, Bennie Coffey, a brother, Herbert Taylor, six sisters, Opal, Mable, Flarie, Clara, Ruth, and Mertie, and two grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Hoyt Coffey and his wife, Betty, of Muncie, Indiana, Kenneth Coffey and his wife, Bernice of Wichita, Kansas, William "Doc" Coffey, of Stearns, Kentucky, Larry Coffey and his wife, Sandra, of Stearns, Kentucky, two daughters, Phyllis Ferrara and her husband Peter, of Stearns, Kentucky, and Jewelene Dobbs and her husband Ellard, of Muncie, Indiana, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
