Mrs. Mildred Jane Coffey; Grandmother to 24 Was 91

Mrs. Mildred Jane Coffey, 91, known to her friends, children, 24 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren for her knitting and handmade quilts, died Sunday in Sibley Hospital after a fall.

Born Mildred Dodd in December, 1870, in Nelson County, Va., Mrs. Coffey was the widow of Henry Joseph Coffey. He died in 1945. Until 1949, she lived at their home on Telegraph Road in Alexandria, but since then has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Nannie McGrady, 5208 Twenty-eighth street N.W.

Mrs. Coffey was a member of the Chevy Chase Baptist Church.

In addition to Mrs. McGrady and the grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mrs. Coffey leaves three great-great-grandchildren.

Her other immediate survivors are a sister, Mrs. Ella Fitzgerald, of Franconia, Va., two brothers, Richard Dodd, of Fisherville, Va., and Parker R. Dodd, Waynesboro, Va.

Also four sons, Wallace of Lyndhurst, Va.; Noel of Groveton, Va.; Francis, of Woodbridge, Va., and Watson, of Rockville, Md., and 921 Hamilton street N.W., Washington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Cunningham Funeral Home, Cameron and North Alfred streets, Alexandria, with burial in the family plot at Sharon Chapel Cemetery, Alexandria.
