Alice Peter Demastus was born in February 1862 in Nelson Co., VA.4923 She was also known as Alice Peter Demastus.4923 She lived with her mother and step-father in Nelson Co., VA on 25 September 1870. Alice lived with her son Ellis in South River Dist., Augusta Co., VA on 28 April 1910.4924 She lived with her son-in-law, John W. Demasters in Beverley Manor Dist., Augusta Co., VA on 12 April 1930. Alice Peter died on 31 March 1938 at the age of 76 in Lyndhurst, Augusta Co., VA and was buried at Staunton, Independent City., VA.4925,4926

Waynesboro, April 4, 1938, Mrs. Alice Coffey died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Demastus at Fishersville, Va. She was seventy eight years of age and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Demastus, two sons Woody Coffey of Waynesboro and Ellis Coffey of Staunton; one brother, Tom Coffey of Nelson County, Twenty three grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from Olivet Presbyterian Church near Staunton with Dr. John C. Siler and the Rev. Mr. Roberts officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Alice Peter DeMasters, the only child of Mary Monroe and Peter DeMasters, was born in Nelson County, VA about 1862. Peter and Mary were married in April 1861. Peter was a member of the Lamkin Battery of the Nelson Artillery during the War Between the States. Peter did not survive the war; and Alice was named Alice Peter for her father. Her mother later married Edmond Coffey, who raised Alice as his own child.

Alice was survived by her half brother Henry Thomas Coffey of Love in Nelson Co., sons Ellis and Woody Coffey, and one daughter, Audrey Bell Coffey DeMasters; twenty-three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, David Garland Coffey and sons: Nelson Lee, John Brackston, James William, George, Thomas; and daughter, Lena. Alice died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter DeMasters (Audrey Bell) in Fishersville.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 7 at two o'clock at the Olivet Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Siler and the Rev. Mr. Roberts officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

He lived with his parents in Massies Mill, Nelson Co, VA on 2 September 1870. David died in Nelson Co., VA in 1906.
