Mrs. Teressie Fitzgerald Coffey, 101, a resident of the District Home, died Tuesday night (May 23) in the home.

She was born in Nelson County on Oct. 25, 1887, the daughter of the late Lewis Austin and Mary Ann Coffey Fitzgerald.

She was a member of the Sherando Christian Church.She married Charlie Austin Coffey on Oct. 26, 1911. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1953.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Ottis (Eula) Fitzgerald on Nov. 21, 1983, and by a son, Woody Austin Coffey. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Nettie Taylor, Alice Coffey, Sal Fitzgerald, Bessie Campbell and Martha Ann Fitzgerald; a brother, Jasper Fitzgerald and a granddaughter, Madeline Rhodes.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Orcie (Gladys) Taylor of Route 4, and Mrs. Alvis (Myrtle) Grant of Shipman; 13 grandchildren, Sonny Taylor, Don Taylor, Butch Taylor, Charles Grant, James Grant, Larry Grant, Joan Johnson, Florine Painter, Ruthie Dedrick, Libby Dameron, Edith Stinnett, Dottie Rankin and Roger Fitzgerald; 34 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Stuarts Draft chapel of Etter Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. William Callis and the Rev. Charles Ramsey, with burial in the White Rock Cemetery, Tye, River.Active pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home and other times at the residence of Orcie and Gladys Taylor, Route 4, Waynesboro.

Charles Austin Coffey, 74, Route 2, Waynesboro, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday at the University of Virginia Hospital here he had been a patient for 22 days. He had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Orcie Taylor, Route 2.

Mr. Coffey was born Oct. 23, 1878, in Nelson County, son of the late Holloway and Virginia Dinsmore Coffey. He was a member of the White Rock Christian Church, near Montebello.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Teressia Fitzgerald Coffey, Route 2; three daughters, Mrs. Orcie Taylor, Route 2; Mrs. Alvis Grant, Charlottesville; and Mrs. Ottis Fitzgerald, Sherando; one brother, Holloway Coffey, Montebello; one sister, Mrs. E. W. Fitzgerald, Montebello; and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral procession left the Etter Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. today for funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Christian Church at Nash, conducted by the Rev. J. L. McKinney, with interment in the family cemetery near Nash.
